Scapa Flow – Week

Hard Boat Diving, Scapa Flow, Orkney Islands

17/06/2017 to 24/06/2017
* Waiting list only
Orkney is the group or Islands which lie off the northern most tip of Scotland. The archipelago of Orkney consists of around 70 islands, although only 17 of the are currently inhabited. Orkney boasts a rich cultural heritage – impressive archaeology, including the Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site. In the summer months Orkney enjoys long days – where the sun hardly sets. With clean air and beautiful, inspiring scenery Orkney is a wonderful place to visit. Stromness is the main diving centre for Orkney; it is a small town, but boasts all the amenities necessary for a weeks diving.

The main diving attraction to Scapa Flow is the WW1 German High Seas Fleet, entombed in the still green waters since 1919 following their scuttling by Admiral Von Reuter. Three 25,388 tonne battleships, four light cruisers and numerous other sites related to the sinking lie within the main body of the Flow – all offering fantastic diving. Covered in life, massive guns and breath taking levels of preservation means these wrecks have something for everyone.

Some of the wrecks are deeper (30-40 m) and demands a good standard of diving competence, For this reason, the trip is only open to divers of Advanced Open Water certification and above, with at least 50 logged dives, some of which must be sea dives made n the UK from boats.

We will be diving from MV Huskyan with her skipper Emily Turton.  New Horizons have been with Emily a number of times and she runs a fantastic boat, complete with a diver lift, gives the most informative dive briefings and produces the best food on any boat.  Along with this, Emily offers very comfortable accommodation just 50m from the harbour (Number 15, Diver s Lodge).  Without  doubt this is the ultimate package to dive Scapa Flow successfully and experience the Orkney Islands in comfort.

Most divers will drive to Scrabster on Saturday 17th and catch the ferry to Stromness  in the afternoon or evening. The diving is on Sunday the 18th through to Friday 23rd. Friday night is spent relaxing in Stromness before the return journey on Saturday 24th June.
