Normandy – Liveaboard

Normandy & Channel Islands

Sailing from Portland, Dorset

16/09/2017 to 22/09/2017

Places Available

Normandy is famous for the D-Day landings, resulting in the coast line of this area of France, as well as the nearby Channel Islands, being scattered with a range of wrecks from both allied forces and opposition fleets. While some of the wrecks like at 40-50 metres, there are a large number at 30 metres or less, making for an exciting and varied itinerary, with plenty for the more technically minded diver to enjoy.

The liveaboard, MY Salutay, will be moored at Portland Marina, Dorset, from where we sail.  We will board MY Salutay on the evening of Saturday the 16th September before heading off for the Normandy Coast on Sunday the 17th.

The week long itinerary will take in a range of wrecks, reefs, walls and pinnacles of Normandy, Guernsey. Jersey, Sark or Brittany. The final itinerary will be dependent on sea and weather conditions at the time, but divers should expect to complete 10 – 11 dives during the week. We will return home to Portland Marina for lunchtime on Friday the 22nd.

Salutay offers comfortable accommodation for 10 recreational divers and the crew pride themselves on offering great homemade food prepared daily, helping to make your stay aboard comfortable and enjoyable!

With Oxygen and Helium analysers on board, both NITROX (up to 40% oxygen) and Trimix are available. Oxygen and Helium are available for a nominal fee, made payable locally.

While we depart from the UK, many of the dives will take place within French waters, so please take your passport.  A towel and sleeping bag will also be required. Divers will require one cylinder, one twinset or one rebreather for this trip. 15 litre cylinders are available to rent; please enquire at the time of booking.

This trip will offer something truly unique. Water temperatures vary between 10 – 19°C, making a drysuit essential. Underwater visibility is expected to be 5 – 10 metres. Many of the wrecks like deeper (30-40 metres) and demand a good standard of diving competence.

For these reasons, this trip is only open to divers of Advanced Open Water certification and above with at least 50 logged dives, some of which must be sea dives made in the UK from boats. Divers with Technical training will also be welcome.

The package price includes 5 days of diving with 2 dives per day with 6 nights spent aboard the MY Salutay. All meals, excluding on the evening of the 16th, are included in the package price. This trip and the trip leader is organised by New Horizons Dive Society.

The price for this great week-long liveaboard trip is just  £ 975
