PADI Night Diver Specialty

PADI Night Diver Specialty

PADI Night Diver Specialty

See things in a new light! You may have dived at a site many times before, but at night you’ll drop into a whole new world. The scene changes as day creatures retire and nocturnal organisms emerge. If you’ve wondered what happens as the sun goes down, sign up for the PADI Night Diver Specialty course to find out.

The thought of dipping below the surface at night seems mysterious, yet so alluring. The scene changes as day creatures retire and nocturnal organisms emerge. At night you’ll drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your torch.

If you’ve wondered what happens underwater after the sun goes down, the PADI Night Diver Specialty course has the answer.

Following some ‘self study’ you’ll complete at home, you’ll meet the NHDC team to review your theory before getting on with the fun bits!

You will complete three dives in Open Water, exploring the world at night. You’ll practice light handling and communication techniques, entering, exiting and navigating in the dark and identifying how plants and animals differ or change behaviour at night.

Once you’re seen bio-illuminescence you’ll never want to dive during daylight hours again!

This course will also count towards the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating and the first dive of this Specialty course may count towards the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.

Knowledge Development

As part of the PADI Night Diver Specialty Course, you’ll complete some Knowledge Development before the fun bits. This will be reviewed with your instructor before putting the theory into practice during three open water dives.

The theory side can be completed at you own pace before being reviewed. Currently only available as a physical manual, this can be collected from the NHDC Dive Centre.

Open Water Dives

Night diving can be one of the most surreal, mesmerising and unforgettable ways to dive! Behaviours change, nocturnal creatures wake and if you’re lucky enough, seeing corals and creatures glow as they fluoresce in a range of colours will be an exceptional experience.

During the PADI Night Diver specialty your instructor will help you develop key night diving skills. Over the course of three open water dives with your NHDC PADI Instructor you’ll practice:

  • Light handling and communication techniques.
  • Entering, exiting and navigating in the dark.
  • Identifying how plants and animals differ or change behavior at night

The underwater world is a fascinating place, doubly so at night! This is an essential course for all divers and in particular for anyone interested in seeing the underwater world in a new light.

We’ll provide everything you need. We pride ourselves on ensuring there are no hidden costs.

We will provide all the basic, as well as any specialised, equipment for diving while perfecting your night diving skills. Comfort is everything in scuba diving, therefore if you already have your own equipment, we’d encourage you to bring it along to keep you warm and comfortable while exploring the sea at night!

Knowledge Development can be completed at your own pace but will be reviewed with the NHDC team before certification.

Open Water dives are usually completed over several days due to lighting requirements, with courses arranged on a regular basis.

While this course can be completed at one of our usual inland sites, the PADI Night Diver Specialty course is best completed on one of our trips, where we can really experience the joy of night diving.

New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging courses to suit your schedule so please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.

On all of our PADI Night Diver Specialty course options you will receive…

  • Coaching and on-going support from an experienced, passionate and professional PADI Instructor
  • Equipment Orientation (new or unfamiliar equipment)
  • 2 hours (minimum) Knowledge Review (held with your NHDC Instructor)
  • 2 hours (minimum) Open Water dives
  • FREE rental of all required equipment (including, but not limited to: cylinders & air fills, dive computer, fins, mask, snorkel, wetsuit, drysuit & undersuit, specialist equipment [e.g. torches])
  • Course materials
  • PADI Certification

For dives completed in UK water, we recommend you use a drysuit and undersuit for greater comfort. If you have no previous drysuit experience, we will arrange a pool based orientation session for an additional £40 before your Open Water dives so you are fully prepared and confident to jump in.

Please note, our course fees covers equipment rental, PADI Certification fees etc, but do not cover entry fees to open water dive sites or for dive trips. These vary according to location; please ask for further details.
