Diving with Enriched Air (Nitrox) allows you to extend your no-decompression limits and have shorter surface intervals. This is a great benefit for all dives and especially if you are planning a ,ulti dive- multi day dive trip, such as a liveaboard. On the PADI Enriched Air (NITROX) Diver specialty you will learn how to plan and execute dives using 22-40% oxygen using dive computers.
The PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver specialty course consists of knowledge development and practical exercises followed by two OPTIONAL open water dives. Initially you’ll complete some self study using the PADI Enriched Air manual and DVD. You’ll then attend a classroom session with a PADI instructor, who will review your learning and carry out some practical exercises with you before completing a short quiz and course exam.
You may join us to complete two optional open water dives using Enriched Air (Nitrox). This enables you to plan, conduct and experience Enriched Air dives, including analysing your gas and completing your logbook at the end.

Knowledge Development
Enriched Air (NITROX) is any gas blend that has more Oxygen than air. Using your course materials (manual or electronic equivalent) you’ll learn why diving with air that has higher oxygen and lower nitrogen content gives you more bottom time.
You’ll meet your instructor at the NHDC classroom to find out more along with enriched air equipment and dive planning considerations.
During a practical session, course exam and two optional scuba dives, you’ll:
- Discuss managing oxygen exposure.
- Practice analyzing oxygen content in your scuba tank.
- Set your dive computer for diving with enriched air nitrox.
You will also learn:
- Techniques for getting more dive time by using enriched air nitrox
- How to plan dives using enriched air and how to calculate your maximum depths, dive times, and optimal enriched air blends for any given depth.
Open Water Dives
While not mandatory for this course, you can take up the option to complete 2 dives using NITROX any time we’re in open water and put the theory into practice.
We’ll provide everything you need. We pride ourselves on ensuring there are no hidden costs.
As this is a mostly classroom based course, there is nothing you need other than a Dive Computer. Don’t yet have your own? Don’t worry! Rental of one of ours for the theory (and open water dives) is included in the course price. That said, with discounts available on our range of Suunto Dive computers, only to our Enriched Air NITROX course students, now’s the time to get one of your own!
Opting for the two open water dives? Rental of essential equipment is included in that price too!
As this is a classroom based course, this can be held all year round! Highly recommended for dive trips with multiple dives planned on multiple days.
Knowledge Development can be completed at your own pace but will be reviewed with the NHDC team at our Dive Centre before you go on to complete some further training plus dive planning exercises and the course exam.
The optional two Open Water dives can be arranged and completed on a convenient date whenever we’re in open water, however, we have arranged a few dates to help.
New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging courses to suit your schedule so if the scheduled dates are not convenient please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.
On all of our PADI Enriched Air (NITROX) Diver Specialty course options you will receive…
- Coaching and on-going support from an experienced, passionate and professional PADI Instructor
- 2 hours (minimum) Knowledge Review & Development (held at the NHDC Classroom)

Knowledge Development
Completed in your own time, this can be started at any time and completed at your own pace. Choose from using a physical manual or an electronic version compatible with desktops & laptops (eLearning) or tablets & smart phones (Touch).
Electronic versions can be issued via email whereas physical course manuals can be collected from the NHDC Dive Centre.
An initial £75 deposit will ensure course materials can be issued, allowing you to start as soon as you want!
What ever option you choose, the NHDC team will be on hand to help you through and answer any questions as you progress. We will then meet you at the NHDC classroom to review things, work on dive planning, computer use and allow you to ask any questions you may have.

Standard Course
Complete the PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver Specialty course using the materials of your choice and one of our standard schedules. Deluxe Course
Complete the PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver Specialty course using the materials of your choice and one of our standard schedules. Join us on an open water weekend and complete two optional dives to put the theory into practice. With these new specialist skills, you’ll need the equipment to help – you’ll gain 20% discount off the RRP of any Suunto Dive Computer as you progress through the course.
Executive Option
Our standard schedules are designed to offer flexibility, however, if these aren’t convenient, or if you feel you’d benefit from the more personal touch, we can tailor our schedules to a more bespoke timetable.
This executive option allows a 1:1 program, giving you the chance to work with a member of the NHDC team to become a master of scuba diving with Enriched Air NITROX.
Elite Option
If you have access to your own facilities, we can come to you! We will work with you to make a truly tailor-made course schedule. Use the course materials of your choice and when you’re ready, we’ll complete the Knowledge Development at your own facilities. Choose to join us at our usual open water dive sites, or let us escort you overseas. There’s a whole world of possibilities.
Trip Completion
This course may be conducted and completed on one of our trips. Please get in touch with the team to discuss this option and applicable discounts.

A single £75 deposit will allow us to issue the relevant course materials.
Further installment payments can be made with the final balance paid before the start of the Knowledge Development session (or open water dives if completing the Standard or Deluxe course options). Talk to us about installment payment options.
