PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty

PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty

Learn to Scuba Dive

You’ve seen that amazing wreck, the beautiful reef and all the weird and wonderful marine life that call these habitats home – now you want a lasting memory of it. The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty gets you going quickly, whatever camera you use, allowing you to capture images of your underwater adventures anytime you’re in the water.

Underwater photography is one of the most popular underwater pastimes, providing you with lasting memories of your time underwater. With so many cameras to choose from, it has become easier and more fun than ever to capture images of your underwater adventures.
The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty helps you get going quickly, whether you use a point-and-shoot camera or a sophisticated dSLR like the pros.
Underwater photography is also popular with snorkelers, so there is an option for avid snorkelers and skin divers to complete the course too.
Following some ‘self study’ you’ll complete at home, you’ll meet the NHDC team to review your theory before getting on with the fun bits! You will take part in a ‘confined water’ session in a large swimming pool where you will practice the skills you’ve been reading about.
Having mastered your skills you will complete a fun filled day at Capernwray (near Lancaster) where you’ll complete your two open water dives before reviewing your images.
This course will also count towards the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating and the second dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may count towards your Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

Knowledge Development

As part of the PADI digital Underwater Photographer Specialty, you’ll complete some Knowledge Development in the comfort of your own home. This will be reviewed during a classroom session before your Skills Development session, putting it into practice in the pool.

The theory side can be completed at you own pace and with electronic and physical manuals to choose from, you can select the format that’s right for you.

Skills Practice

Also known as ‘Confined Water’ sessions, you’ll practice and ultimately master the skills that will allow you to the perfect photo. Our Skills Practice sessions will take place at local leisure centres on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.

You will enjoy a minimum of 2 hours in the pool, practicing these skills before going on to practice taking the perfect photo at the Open Water dive site.

Open Water Dives

Over the course of a day, usually a Sunday, you’ll complete two open water dives. On successful completion, you’ll be recognised as able the diver that’s witnessed the breathtaking and beautiful!

We’ll provide everything you need. We pride ourselves on ensuring there are no hidden costs.

We will provide all the basic, as well as any specialised equipment for diving while perfecting your photography skills. Comfort is everything in scuba diving, therefore if you already have your own equipment, we’d encourage you to bring it along to keep you warm and comfortable while becoming the underwater David Bailey (look him up)!

Knowledge Development can be completed at your own pace but will be reviewed with the NHDC team before your Skills Development session in the pool.

Open Water dives are completed over a day at the weekend, usually a Sunday, with courses arranged on a regular basis.

New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging courses to suit your schedule so if the scheduled dates are not convenient please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.

On all of our PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty course options you will receive…

  • Coaching and on-going support from an experienced, passionate and professional PADI Instructor
  • Equipment Orientation (camera use & set up)
  • 1 hour (minimum) Knowledge Review (held at the NHDC Classroom)
  • 2 hours (minimum) Skills Development (confined water)
  • 1.5 hours (minimum) Open Water dives
  • FREE rental of all required equipment (including, but not limited to: cylinders & air fills, dive computer, wetsuit, drysuit & undersuit, specialist equipment [e.g. digital camera])
  • Course materials
  • PADI Certification

Our dives are usually completed in UK water, therefore we recommend you use a drysuit and undersuit for greater comfort. If you have no previous drysuit experience, we will arrange a pool based orientation session for an additional £40 before your day in Open Water so you are fully prepared and confident to jump in.

Please note, our course fees covers equipment rental, pool entry fees, PADI Certification fees etc, but do not cover entry fees to open water dive sites. These vary according to location; please ask for further details.
