PADI Boat Diver

Much of the world’s best scuba diving is accessible only by boat. The PADI Boat Diver Specialty course will expand your knowledge about boats from small inflatables to large liveaboards. Whether you’ve never made a boat dive or you’ve logged dozens, scuba diving from a boat becomes even more fun once you understand a little more about them.

Much of the world’s best scuba diving is accessible only by boat. Scuba diving from a boat is fun and relatively easy often enabling you to descend directly onto your dive site.

Whether you’ve never made a boat dive or you’ve logged dozens, the PADI Boat Diver Specialty course will help make every boat dive you enjoy a fun affair. You’ll expand your knowledge about a range of boats from small inflatables to large liveaboards.

After some self-study using the PADI Boat Diver manual you will complete two dives over a day with your PADI Instructor. You’ll gain experience scuba diving from a boat by completing two dives usually on one of our many trips in the UK and abroad.

You’ll learn boat terminology, boat diving procedures and etiquette, including how to enter and exit the boat and water, where to stow your gear plus boating safety, including how to locate safety equipment.

This course will also count towards the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating and the first dive of this Specialty course may count towards the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.

Knowledge Development

As part of the PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course, you’ll complete some Knowledge Development before the fun bits. This will be reviewed with your instructor before putting the theory into practice during two open water dives.

The theory side can be completed at you own pace before being reviewed. Currently only available as a physical manual, this can be collected from the NHDC Dive Centre.

Open Water Dives

Usually completed over the course of a day, you’ll complete two open water dives with your NHDC PADI Instructor. During these dives you’ll practice and come to master skills relating to the relevance of:

  • Boat terminology.
  • Boat diving procedures and etiquette, including how to enter and exit, and where to stow your gear.
  • Boating safety, including how to locate safety equipment.

Ultimately you’ll gain a much deeper appreciation of boats and boat diving, making every dive from a boat a fun experience.

We’ll provide everything you need. We pride ourselves on ensuring there are no hidden costs.

We will provide all the basic, as well as specialised, equipment for diving from boats. Comfort is everything in scuba diving, therefore if you already have your own equipment, we’d encourage you to bring it along to keep you warm and comfortable while you dive.

As etiquette is one of the skills you’ll be improving, our Standard course students will receive a mesh boat bag to use and keep for many more fun scuba diving adventures.

Knowledge Development can be completed at your own pace but will be reviewed with the NHDC team before certification.

Open Water dives are usually completed over a day, conditions permitting. This specialty is ideally completed on one of our UK or overseas trips where boat access is (almost) guaranteed.

New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging courses to suit your schedule so if the scheduled dates are not convenient please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.

On all of our PADI Boat Diver course options you will receive…

  • Coaching and on-going support from an experienced, passionate and professional PADI Instructor
  • Equipment Orientation (when using specialised equipment)
  • 1 hour (minimum) Knowledge Review (with your NHDC PADI Instructor)
  • 1.5 hours (minimum) Skills Development (open water dives)
  • FREE rental of all required equipment (including, but not limited to: cylinders & air fills, dive computer, fins, mask, snorkel, drysuit & undersuit, specialist equipment [e.g. surface marker buoy])
  • Course materials
  • PADI Certification

Our dives may be completed in UK water, therefore we recommend you use a drysuit and undersuit for greater comfort in these sea conditions. If you have no previous drysuit experience, we will arrange a pool based orientation session for an additional £40 before your dives in Open Water so you are fully prepared and confident to jump in.

Please note, our course fees covers equipment rental, pool entry fees, PADI Certification fees etc, but do not cover entry fees to open water dive sites or trips fees. These vary according to location; please ask for further details.
