19th to 26th September

With beauty above and below the waves, what better reason is there to learn to scuba dive? Based off Croatia’s Adriatic coast are hundreds of small islands all adorned with reefs, underwater caverns, pillars and canyons. There are plenty of WWI and WWII wrecks to see too.  From walls to wrecks to rocky reefs, there’s something here for divers of all levels.

With underwater plant species and fish, such as two banded bream and scorpionfish, conger eels octopus, lobster and more this promises to be a destination to fall in love with.

This week long trip will see you head over to Krk Island, off Croatia. Direct flights from Manchester will get you there for the diving, but as flights are not included this could be your chance to explore some more of Croatia while you’re there, meeting up with the NHDC team for a week of diving.

Diving will be from a day boat, although local house reefs may also be explored if conditions permit. You’ll be able to enjoy 2 dives per day, with some time each afternoon for exploration and adventure on land.
Dive sites include local house reefs, wrecks and cave & tunnel systems – there really will be something for everyone making this a destination ideal for anyone with PADI Open Water Diver certification or more.

Accommodation is simple, clean and close to the Dive Centre. There are 2 options:

  1. Two bedroom apartments, comprising one double room and one twin share room. All four people will share a lounge, kitchen and bathroom.
  2. One bedroom apartments, comprising one twin or double room, with a lounge, kitchen and bathroom.

Your stay is on a self-catering basis, therefore options for home catering as well as sampling the delights of local cafes and restaurants are available.

Single supplements are not available on this trip. If you are a solo traveller, NHDC will help to find a suitable room share and dive buddy for you.

Diving

Options for diving from dive boats as well as local house reefs are plentiful. We will arrange to meet either at the Dive Centre or be collected by their shuttle busses for transfer to the day’s chosen sites.

Spectacular land-based scenery is promised to be matched by the diversity and abundance of life below the waves. With chance to encounter a range of schooling fish, octopus, spider crabs and seahorses, wherever you dive, you will be sure to be amazed.

Non-Divers

Non-divers are welcome to join us for this week if they are joining one of our divers. Krk Island offers some fantastic scenery and monuments worthy of exploration. With links to other islands and the mainland via ferry, you’re sure to have just as much fun and adventure on Terra Firma as your diving friends and family.

Due to the nature of the diving, you will need a Dive computer and delayed SMB with reel, as well as your usual personal dive equipment.

Water temperatures at this time of year average 23oC, therefore good 5mm wetsuits should be sufficient exposure protection. Hoods gloves and rash vests may be beneficial for some sites.

Wrecks and caves or caverns will be available to explore and night dives may be on offer (to be arranged locally). To participate on these dives, you will need a good torch.

All required equipment can be rented from NHDC for the week. Some back-up items may be available from Krk Dive Centre but size availability cannot be guaranteed, therefore it is advisable to take what you’ll need!

Cylinders and weights will be available for the week from Krk Dive Centre. Prices include air fills.  NITROX may be available for those qualified to use it and any additional cost is to be paid locally.

Flights are not included in the package price. Please ensure flight availability before booking your place and paying your deposit & arrangement fee.

You will fly out to Croatia. Direct flights from Manchester to nearby Pula airport are available (approximately £300 at the time of publication).

You will arrive on Krk Island on the 19th September, ready to check in to the accommodation and settle in to island life before diving from the 20th to 24th September (inclusive). You will complete 2 dives per day with optional additional dives (e.g. night dives) to be arranged and paid for locally. Diving will start at 9 am (when the dive centre opens), returning during the afternoon, giving you chance to explore local sites each day.

September 25th will be a dry day, allowing you the opportunity to investigate further afield before either returning home on September 26th or continuing your Croatian adventure independently.

Transfers from Pula airport (and back) are included in the package price. However, as flights are not included in the package price, let us know if you’d like to spend some extra time in Croatia and we’ll ask Krk Dive Centre to help with any reasonable travel arrangements.

House Reefs

If you want to explore the most beautiful beach on Krk Island, Silent Beach is the place for you! Following a short shuttle bus ride, you’ll be ready to enter the crystal clear waters.

Heading South, and after only a few meters, a steep face can be seen, where you’ll encounter giant Spider crabs. Special highlights are the several large yellow Sea horses that reside in the central area of the bay.Secret Beach - DIVE LOFT KRK

Head North and you’ll discover a gently sloping plateau awaits you, on which there are always one or more seahorses hidden. Gurnards spread their wings and run over the white sand bottom, which is covered by many large Tubeworms.

These are just a couple of reef highlights. Secret Beach, located only a few meters from the Dive Centre, and 100 Steps (don’t worry, you won’t have to climb this many steps to reach the water!) are other exceptional gems waiting to be explored.

Dive site highlights: shoals of fish, such as salema porgy, two-banded bream, damselfish, blue striped jumping crabs, occasionally seahorses, scorpion fish, …

All sites are within Open Water Diver depth limits, making these ideal for any certification level.

Steep Faces / Wall dives

Dive sites in this category include Selzine (one of the absolute top spots of the northern Adriatic), Mafia Bay (home to 2 dive sites), and Lorely (and you thought there was only one on the Rhine).

The various walls available to explore are covered with corals of all colours. Nooks and crannies are sometimes home to conger eels or giant scorpion fish. Occasionally bigger fish can be encountered. Taucher Steilwand Krk Kroatien

Some sites are exclusive to Krk Dive Centre, making these a must visit destination! Visibility is often 40 metres, ensuring these will be dives to remember!

As these are wall dives you can pick your depth, making these ideal sites for any certification level.

Dive site highlights: amazing corals and anemones, snails of all sorts of colours, conger eels, countless large Scorpion Fish, blue-stripped squat lobster, Giant Spider crabs, as well as other crab species, octopuses, crayfish …

Wrecks

These seas are home to several wrecks, including Peltastis, “Guns of Plavnik” and Lina. Ranging in size and depths, these wrecks offer something for those new to wreck diving as well as those who love to spend their time exploring and entering into wrecks.

Lighting effects in the exceptionally clear water adds to the spectacle of wreck diving. These wrecks can be explored as objects of beauty in their own right, but are now home to many rockfish, various types of crabs, crayfish and large schools of fish. Wracktauchen Lina Cres Kroatien

Depths range from 15 metres to 52 metres but to get the most from these sites it is recommended you are Advanced Open Water Certified. That said, this could be the ideal opportunity to complete an adventure dive or two and achieve that certification while you’re there.

Dive site highlights: The wrecks! Conger eel, lobster, rockfish, various types of crabs, large schools of fish, seahorses …

Caves & Tunnels

You don’t have to be Cave Spec qualified to enjoy these sites, making them ideal sites to try this particular type of adventure for size!

Highlights include Big Cave, Geierfels and Blue Hole. These sites offer some exceptional scenery and dramatic lighting effects.

Vrbnik Cave DIVE LOFT KRK

These sites are not deep, dark, uninhabited spaces making them worthy of exploration, wherever your interests lie. Indeed, layering of freshwater on the ceiling at the rear of some caves offers an amazing visual spectacle.

Entrances are within Open Water Dive depth limits and are often large with good lighting, making them excellent ‘entry level’ cave systems for anyone curious enough to explore them. However, some exits are in Advanced Open Water Diver limits making this the ideal minimum certification level to get the most from them all.

Dive site highlights: Vegetation around cave entrances are often exceptional, making the rocks look like they glow. Lighting effects, haloclines, big fish (tuna) encounters, tons of fish at play, Conger eel… Specific to Geierfels: the dive boat anchors at a rock face which houses one of the world’s last existing Bald Griffon Vulture colonies; observe their 2.7m wing span from the dive boat.

Dive Centre

Krk Dive Centre is open from 9am, allowing you time to prepare your dive equipment in preparation for the day’s adventure.

The Dive Centre houses a wet-room with enough space to hang your diving suits and has a locker room with specially made lockable compartments in which you can store your equipment safely. Hot showers are also available should you want a rinse before returning to the apartments.  Outdoor Area | DIVE CENTER KRK | Croatia
