PADI Drift Diver Specialty

PADI Drift Diver Specialty

Go with the flow! If you’re looking for a dive that can be relaxing and exhilarating at the same time then the PADI Drift Diver Specialty is for you! You’ll enjoy going with the flow as you scuba dive down rivers and use ocean currents to glide along. It the closest scuba diving gets to the felling of flying!

You’ll soon be ‘going with the flow’ during the PADI Drift Diver Specialty.

After some self study using the PADI Drift Diver Specialty manual you will complete two dives with your PADI instructor.

Along with drift diving techniques and procedures, you’ll receive an introduction to drift diving equipment including floats, lines and reels. You’ll get an overview of aquatic currents; their causes and effects.

As you complete your 2 open water dives, you’ll practice buoyancy control, navigation and communication during two drift dives as well as learn techniques for staying close to your buddy as you float with the current.

This course will also count towards the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating and the first dive of this Specialty course may count towards the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.

Knowledge Development

As part of the PADI Drift Diver Specialty Course, you’ll complete some Knowledge Development before the fun bits. This will be reviewed with your instructor before putting the theory into practice during two open water dives.

The theory side can be completed at you own pace before being reviewed. Currently only available as a physical manual, this can be collected from the NHDC Dive Centre.

Open Water Dives

Drift diving can be one of the most relaxing yet exhilarating ways to dive! Use currents and tides to your advantage.

During the PADI Drift Diver specialty your instructor will help you develop key drift diving skills. Over the course of two open water dives with your NHDC PADI Instructor you’ll:

  • Select and use of floats, lines and reels.
  • Practice buoyancy control, navigation and communication during your drift dives.
  • Learn techniques for staying close to your buddy as you float with the current.

During two open water dives you will have the opportunity to practice and ultimately master these skills. This is an essential course for all divers and in particular for anyone considering diving in locations renowned for currents or tides.

We’ll provide everything you need. We pride ourselves on ensuring there are no hidden costs.

We will provide all the basic, as well as any specialised, equipment for diving while perfecting your drift diving skills. Comfort is everything in scuba diving, therefore if you already have your own equipment, we’d encourage you to bring it along to keep you warm and comfortable while going with the flow!

Knowledge Development can be completed at your own pace but will be reviewed with the NHDC team before certification.

Open Water dives are usually completed over a day, with courses arranged on a regular basis.

While this course can be completed at one of our usual inland sites, the PADI Drift Diver Specialty course is best completed on one of our trips, where we can really experience drifts.

New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging courses to suit your schedule so please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.
