What Will I Do?

Safety Briefing

As part of the PADI Discover Scuba Diving session, you’ll complete a short classroom based session where you’ll go through some of the basic safety guidelines and skills you’ll be able to try in the pool.

The theory side is designed to be short and sweet, focusing on the good bits of scuba diving.

Equipment Orientation

Before you leave for the pool, you’ll complete an equipment orientation session with your instructor.  You’ll get to see how it all goes together and how it works. You’ll be able to try it for size before we take it all to the pool for you.

Pool Session

This is what you’ve been waiting for – your chance to try scuba diving! You’ll be helped into your equipment before your instructor helps you take your first, exhilarating breaths underwater. You’ll get comfortable swimming with scuba equipment on in the shallows. As your confidence grows, you’ll be able to head into deeper water (maximum 3 metres) and even try a few scuba diving skills.

The emphasis is on fun, so you’ll get chance to complete a few games while you’re under water too!

Can I Learn to Dive?

Session Pre-Requisites

There aren’t very many pre-requisites; almost anyone can sign up to try scuba diving!

  • Min Age: 10 years old
  • Medically Fit: Complete this Medical Statement and have a GP countersign it if required.
  • Ability: No previous experience required. Being of reasonable physical health is an advantage.
What Equipment Will I Use?

We’ll provide everything you need. We pride ourselves on ensuring there are no hidden costs.

You’ll be able to use our Scuba Diving equipment including breathing apparatus (regulators), cylinders, fins, mask, snorkel and wetsuit. If you have your own already there’s no problem using that instead – we want you to be comfortable while you’re with us – but there’s no obligation to have your own equipment while you see if scuba diving will become your new favorite hobby!

When Can I Learn to Dive?

We offer PADI Discover Scuba Diving Sessions at least once per month. Each session starts at the NHDC Classroom, where you’ll complete the Equipment Orientation and Safety Briefing elements. You’ll also have plenty of opportunity to ask all those questions you may have.

Each session lasts up to 4 hours (with up to 1.5 hours ‘in water’) and take place on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, starting at the NHDC classroom before continuing at Macclesfield or Congleton Leisure Centres.

New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging sessions to suit your schedule so if the scheduled dates are not convenient please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.

Your place will be confirmed on receipt of paymnet and the Course Medical Statement (countersigned by a GP if required). Please note, we will not be able to start any in water activities without one!
