Missing a dive due to minor issues with your scuba diving equipment can be frustrating, whether it’s because of a missing o-ring, wetsuit tear or a broken fin strap.
Through the PADI Equipment Specialist course you’ll learn how to manage basic repairs and adjustments. You’ll find out more about how your gear works, making you more comfortable with it and better prepared to take care of your investment.
Following some ‘self study’ you’ll complete at home, you’ll meet the NHDC team to review your theory before getting on with the fun bits! This is a classroom based course, giving you the opportunity to handle different types of equipment.
Practical activities include assembly of a spare parts kit, care and maintenance of dive suits, stripping and cleaning masks and the functioning parts of a regulator.
You’ll learn about routine care and maintenance procedures as well as scuba equipment storage recommendations. Your instructor will show you how to overcome some common equipment problems and offer equipment configuration suggestions. You may even get to jump into the pool to try new, repaired or unfamiliar equipment.
This course may also count towards the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

Min Age: 10 years old
Medically Fit: Complete this Medical Statement and have a GP countersign it if required (required for the Standard Course).
Ability: You will need to be PADI Open Water Diver (or Junior Open Water Diver) certified to enroll onto this course.

Knowledge Development
As part of the PADI Equipment Specialist Course, you’ll complete some Knowledge Development before the fun bits. This will be reviewed with your instructor before putting the theory into practice during the classroom session.
The theory side can be completed at you own pace and with electronic and physical manuals to choose from, you can select the format that’s right for you.
Skills Development
During your day with the NHDC team, you’ll learn about routine care and maintenance procedures as well as storage recommendations for a range of scuba diving equipment. Your instructor will show you how to overcome some common equipment problems and offer equipment configuration suggestions. You may even get to jump into the pool to try new, repaired or unfamiliar equipment.
During your time with us, you will:
- Review the theory, principles and operation of scuba diving equipment.
- Learn about routine and recommended care & maintenance procedures, and equipment storage.
- Find out how to overcome common problems with equipment and recommended professional maintenance procedures.
- Gain simple suggestions for comfortable equipment configurations and an introduction to new gear (may include optional confined water dive to try new or unfamiliar equipment if completing the ‘Standard’ course option).

As this is a classroom based course, no specialist equipment is required. NHDC will provide the tea and biscuits!
Should you wish to test out new or different equipment, we’ll provide that too!
As this is a classroom based course, this can be held all year round! To help get things started, we have arranged a couple of dates for when the classroom is free. These also coincide with pool sessions so you can test out equipment afterwards.

Knowledge Development
Completed in your own time, this can be started at any time and completed at your own pace. Choose from using a physical manual or electronic versions compatible with tablet devices & smart phones (Touch).
Electronic versions can be issued via email whereas physical course manuals can be collected from the NHDC Dive Centre.
An initial £75 deposit will ensure course materials can be issued, allowing you to start as soon as you want!
What ever option you choose, the NHDC team will be on hand to help you through and answer any questions as you progress. We will then meet you for the classroom based Skills Development session to review things and put the theory into practice!
Skills Development
Taking place at the NHDC classroom, you’ll meet the NHDC team to develop your understanding and maintenance skills. It’s not all talk! Over the course of the day there will be plenty of practical sessions too.
You’ll learn about Scuba gear and get chance to perform some basic maintenance on some equipment practical activities. You will:
- Understand, adjust and configure your own Scuba Diving equipment.
- See the latest developments on the market.
- Look into the operation of regulators
- Get a glimpse behind the scenes at the compressor

Complete the PADI Equipment Specialist course using the materials of your choice and one of our standard schedules.
Standard Course
Complete the PADI Equipment Specialist course using the materials of your choice and one of our standard schedules. following the classroom session, jump in to the pool and test dive new or unfamiliar equipment.
Executive Option
Our standard schedules are designed to offer flexibility, however, if these aren’t convenient, or if you feel you’d benefit from the more personal touch, we can tailor our schedules to a more bespoke timetable.
This executive option allows a 1:1 program, giving you the chance to work with a member of the NHDC team to become a master of Drysuit diving.
Elite Option
If you have access to your own facilities, we can come to you! We will work with you to make a truly tailor-made course schedule. Use the course materials of your choice and when you’re ready, we’ll complete the Skills Development at your own facilities. Choose to test out dive equipment at one of our usual pool sessions, or let us escort you overseas. There’s a whole world of possibilities.

A single £75 deposit will allow us to issue the relevant course materials.
Further installment payments can be made with the final balance paid before the open water weekend (or final pool session if completing the Referral option). Talk to us about installment payment options.
