NHDC July Social - Seasearch!

Set the date to find out about Seasearch, a marine conservation society project ! 

New to UK diving or ever wondered what you were looking at when you explored the beauty of the UK’s coasts and wanted to know more? Then July’s social evening is ideal for you!

We are delighted to announce we will be joined by Seasearch on 6th July. Seasearch is a marine conservation  project aimed at developing the skills and knowledge of recreational divers who have an interest in learning more about one of the most diverse marine environments in the world – UK seas.

To help develop these skills, Seasearch will be running a course on the 9th July, so why not find out more about what you could learn and how to sign up to this one, or their next course (date TBC).

With the usual announcements and news, July’s dive social looks like it will be a wonderful evening for us all!

NHDC June Social - Mini Quiz!

Join us to meet thelatest member of the NHDC team and complete a mini quiz !  

June sees us being joined by the latest member of the NHDC team, the new Dive Centre manager, Sammi. With a host of skills, knowledge and experience, it’s the perfect time to pop along and say hello, while picking her brains on all matters diving!

Along wit the usual news and announcements, we’ll also have a ‘mini quiz’ to entertain you with.

NHDC May Social - PADI Power!

Join us to find out about PADI’s approach to conservation !  

This month we’ll be joined by Matt Clements from PADI, offering us insight into their approach to conservation and how we can work together to improve the environment we enjoy most – under water! This is set to be an entertaining and informative evening for anyone with an interest in the environment!

We’ll also be sharing the usual NHDC News too

NHDC February Social - we're back!

The first Dive Society Social of the year is nigh!  

On the 2nd of February we shall be returning to Macclesfield Rugby Club for the first social of what looks to be a very eventful year! Usual time of 20:00 kick off.

For our first event of the year, we are planning on having something a little special – watch this space!

2016 Social Events

December: Following previous successes, we will be immersing ourselves in the festive spirit on Saturday 10th December at Gurkha Dining from 7.30pm. Numbers are limited so if you’d like to join us please let us know ASAP! Please note, this replaces the usual monthly get together at Macclesfield Rugby Club.

November: Join us for our New Horizons Social on Thursday 5th November at Macclesfield Ruby club 8.00pm. Our very own Tony Gilbert will be doing the UK Trip release for 2016 and we have some fantastic things going on for you! A definite date for the diary…

October: Join us for our New Horizons Social on Thursday 6th of October at Macclesfield Ruby club 8.00pm. A quiz with a difference – lead by Sea Changers, a UK based marine conservation charity.

September: Learn about the work performed by the charity Deptherapy; as championed by our own Staff Instructor Andy Frith, who will be providing the presentation.

August: New Horizons will be having our annual summer BBQ at Capernwray on Wednesday 10th August from 3.00pm onwards. Tickets will be £24 pp for Diving and BBQ or £12 pp for just the BBQ. The entry voucher, which you will be given at the time of booking, is valid any time before 3:00pm on Wednesday the 10th August.

After diving the BBQ will be served at about 20:00. Looking forward to really a fun evening and let’s hope for some sunshine!

July: Quiz night lead by Mr Phil Wood; entry £1 on the door in aid of the RNLI.

June: A truely social Social! Due to a last minute cancellation, this will be your chance to tell us what you’d like us to arrange for you.

May: Trip report from the Phillipines from our own Brian Newman, preceded by a round of announcements!

April: Hear about the joys of diving with rebreathers from our more technical instructor Jason Pepper.

March: Come along to our March social to hear about the joy of diving in the Red Sea!

February: For our first event of the year, we plan to have an informal social event. We plan to introduce the latest members of staff, talk about future plans and hear from you, our Society members, to find out what you’d like us to provide or arrange for you!

January: Happy New Year! Please note, there will not be a NHDC Dive Society Social event in January. The shop will be open as always so if you’re missing the friendly chat about all matters diving feel free to call in and make the most of the January sales!

October: Join us for our New Horizons Social on Thursday 1st of October at Macclesfield Ruby club 8.00pm. Our Quiz Master Phil has got another super evening planned for us…

September: Wendy will be coming to see us from Seasearch. Seasearch is a project for volunteer sports divers who have an interest in what they’re seeing under water, want to learn more and want to help protect the marine environment around the coasts of Britain and Ireland.

August: New Horizons will be having our annual summer BBQ at Capernwray on Wednesday 26th August from 3.00pm onwards. Tickets will be £25 pp for Diving and BBQ or £14 pp for just the BBQ. The entry voucher, which you will be given at the time of booking, is valid any time after 3:00pm on Wednesday the 26th August. If you are going up earlier then you can still use the voucher but will have to pay a small supplement at the gate. Please note that the voucher does not include registration with Capernwray  – if you are not registered this will cost £15.00. Please make sure you bring the vouchers with you on the day.

Please let us know at the time of booking whether you need to any gear rental so we can bring this up on the day in the van. We will be already be at Capernwray at 3:00pm and will have with us any rental gear which has been pre booked and paid for. If you are planning to arrive earlier and require equipment then you need to pick it up from New Horizons in advance – please advise us if that is the case. When you arrive we will be there to help you plan your dives and if necessary find you a suitable buddy to dive with.

After diving the BBQ will be served at about 20:00. Looking forward to really a fun evening and let’s hope for some sunshine!

May: Due to a large proportion of our team travelling to the Red Sea, this month’s social has been cancelled. Hope to see you all next month instead!

April: Its been a while since our last bowling social – lets see who has been practising…Thursday 2nd April we are going to Macclesfield Superbowl with the lanes booked from 7.30pm. Anyone who would like to join in it’s £10 a head which will give you 2 games. Great chance to meet and socialise with other New Horizons members and, of course, the winner will be presented with a New Horizon gift voucherBob in or call us to arrange payment as we will need this before the 27th March. Please note, this replaces our usual monthly gathering at Macclesfield Rugby Club.

…what it might be like to dive alone ?

……or are you just a photographer who focuses more on the subject than on your buddy?
If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions then our next social will be a great one for you!
On March 5th 8.00pm at Macclesfield Rugby Club (doors will open at 7.30pm) , Jason Pepper, our resident cave diver and tech instructor, will be talking about self-reliance.
Planning and executing dives so you are independently responsible for yourself, with a buddy or without is a skillset that cannot be underestimated.
Come along to our March social to hear how self-reliant diving skills can help you become the diver you aspire to be!
February: It’s the first social of the new year and we are going to be starting things off with a bang! 
Thursday 5th February 8.00pm at Macclesfield Rugby Club we are lucky enough to have Freediving expert Steve Millard come and tell us about the sport.

Steve is one of the leading UK instructors for Freediving. He has been freediving for many years and has represented the UK in Six World Championships as a UK Squad Member and is also UK Head Coach. We are really excited to hear all about it here at NHDC! Definitely one not to miss! Hope to see you all there!!

2014 Social Events

December: We will be having a Festive night out at a local Indian restaurant on Thursday the 11th December. If you would like to join us, please let us know by the 9th December so we can make the arrangements. It will cost £14 per head and payment is required at the time of booking. Please note, this replaces the social scheduled for the 4th December.

November Special Event: – and evening with PADI. This event will be at the New Horizons Dive Centre.

On the 27th November New Horizons Dive Centre will be holding an evening with PADI’s Matt Clements (PADI’s regional manager) who will be coming to tell us all about PADI’s extensive range of courses along with details on how to become a PADI professional. This will be an informal evening with a chance for you to ask any questions that you might have for PADI or your New Horizons PADI Pro’s. These could range from what to do after completing your Open Water Diver course all the way to how to become a PADI instructor. We will also be discussing next years UK and overseas trips and which would suit your level best. Also, find out from our New Horizons Pro’s where their favourite New Horizons Trips have been.

November: We are pleased to announce the Nautical Archaeological Society will be giving us what promises to be a fascinating presentation. Come along and find out about this charity’s work.

October: This month we will be joined by the RNLI, who will be giving us a presentation of their valuable work. We look forward to seeing you all at what promises to be an excellent evening!

September: Due to unforeseen events, Bite Back will not be able to attend this month. In their place, or very own Phil Wood will be running a quiz night. Entry is £1 per person with proceeds being donated to charity. See you there!

August: Our New Horizons Summer BBQ will be held at Capernwray on Wednesday 6th August 3.00pm onwards.  Diving and BBQ ticket £25, BBQ only £14. Please note, this event replaces the monthly Thursday Social meeting.

July: The guest speaker will be Jane Sheldon who will be giving us a presentation about diving in Gozo. Jane is one of our club members and has dived in Gozo on many occasions.  There are one or two places left on our November trip so if you are considering joining the trip then this is a MUST!

June: A quick reminder that our monthly socials are now held on the first THURSDAY in each month. Tomorrow evening’s social (5th June) will be held at Macclesfield Rugby Club commencing at 20.00. Unfortunately, due to a mix up on dates, we will not have a guest speaker with us but it will be an opportunity to meet up with the team, enjoy a drink with your fellow divers and catch up on news generally.
