PADI Open WaterLearn to Scuba Dive
The PADI Open Water Diver Course is the world’s most popular scuba course and has introduced millions of people to the fun of scuba diving. The course will take you from being a complete beginner to holding your PADI certification – your passport to underwater adventures around the world.
After some self-study at home using the course materials, you meet up with your experienced PADI Instructor to review your progress. There are some simple quizzes to be done with plenty of time to talk about the fun and excitement of diving. You will take part in three sessions in a large swimming pool where you will learn the skills that you need to dive safely and enjoyably. Class sizes are small and the pace is relaxed with plenty of time for practice.
Having mastered your skills you will participate in one further pool session wearing a Drysuit to learn its correct use. This is followed by two days at Capernwray (near Lancaster) to complete your four open water dives. During these dives you will put into practice all the things that you have learnt in the pool but also get to experience what diving is really about, seeing some fish and visiting a wreck!
Course Duration & Schedule
We offer both fast track and more leisurely standard schedules. Each pool session lasts up to 4 hours and take place on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon at Macclesfield or Congleton Leisure Centres.
New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging courses to suit your schedule so if the scheduled dates are not convenient please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.
PADI eLearning & Touch Options
We provide Open Water Diver course students with a crewpack containing the course manual and a DVD (among other goodies). After some self study, our students join their instructor for two theory sessions to cover the quick quizzes and talk about the fun of diving. We call this the ‘Standard’ Course option.
If you prefer electronic materials, or can’t make both theory sessions, then the PADI Touch or eLearning systems are for you!. We’ll provide you with an access code so you can download the materials directly to your computer, laptop or tablet. With access to superb definition videos as you work through, you’ll be able to complete all of the knowledge development at a pace to suit you. More information and some of the most frequently asked questions can be found here.
We’d still ask you to join us for the first theory session so you can meet the team and your fellow dive buddies before the fun really begins!
If you want to learn to dive but have a busy schedule or would enjoy having your own instructor then this is the option for you. You will complete your theory and pool training at a relaxed pace following a schedule tailored to suit your needs with your own PADI Instructor. You would then join other students to complete your open water dives in Capernwray.
If for any reason you are unable to complete your qualifying open water dives with us at Capernwray then we can issue you with ‘referral documentation’ to take with you and complete your dives on holiday.
