PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty

PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty

PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty

Being ready to help others should the need arise is a great skill to have. Divers know that oxygen plays a vital role in diving first aid but how many know how and are confident to administer it? Through the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty course you’ll learn how to recognise when a diver requires oxygen and the techniques to administer it.

Administration of oxygen is an essential step in diver related injury, but that doesn’t mean the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider specialty is just for divers; it’s open to everyone, and only your enthusiasm and eagerness to learn is required!

Though suited to divers, this course doesn’t include dives, which means it is equally applicable to those who are around divers such as boat crew, non-diving buddies, lifeguards, and shore staff.  Furthermore you don’t need any previous CPR or first aid training to take the course.

After some self study using a manual you will attend a review and practical application session with your PADI instructor. You will learn about the physiology of oxygen use, when to provide oxygen, which oxygen delivery method to use and how to assemble and operate oxygen delivery equipment.

This course can also count towards the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver certification.

Knowledge & Skills Development

As part of the PADI Open Water Diver Course, you’ll complete some Knowledge Development before you meet the NHDC Team a their classroom. This will be reviewed during a classroom session before the skills Development session, putting it into practice in a series of scenarios.

This is a practical course which provides you with detailed knowledge of oxygen delivery systems not included in basic first aid courses.  You will learn about the physiology of oxygen use, when to provide oxygen, which oxygen delivery method to use and how to assemble and operate oxygen delivery equipment.

During the fun bits (Skills Development) you’ll practice:

  • Assembly and disassembly of emergency oxygen equipment.
  • Deploying a non-rebreather mask and a demand inhalator valve on a breathing patient.
  • Using a pocket mask on a non-breathing victim.

We’ll provide everything you need. We pride ourselves on ensuring there are no hidden costs.

Being able to administer first aid rescue breaths before oxygen arrives can be a great help to the victim. For that reason we offer our students a discount on barrier packs, which include an oxygen assembly compatible pocket mask, as a standard.

Knowledge Development can be completed at your own pace but will be reviewed with the NHDC team at our Dive Centre before the fun starts during the Skills Development session.

The PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider specialty is a classroom based course, so can be completed all year round! It’s also an ideal ‘complementary course’ to anyone considering the PADI Rescue Diver course, so we’ve arranged a few dates to coincide with this course.

New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging courses to suit your schedule so if the scheduled dates are not convenient please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.
